DB-200 Granular Pond Sealer

$375.00

DB-200 Pond Sealer comes in 5 gallon jugs only. Originally formulated for use in new pond construction, DB-200 is useful in existing ponds as a spot treatment due to the fact that it sinks straight down wherever it strikes the water when cast in. Not as useful above the water line. When ordering 5 or more 5 gallon jugs (25 gallons or more), call or email for a motor freight shipping quote. Because DB-200 is so strong, it can kill fish by coating their gills, therefore you must read application instructions before purchase.

DB-200 GRANULAR POND SEALER

When constructing new ponds, or re-sealing drained ponds, we recommend that you spread dry pond sealant, DB-200, onto deeply disturbed (tilled) soil, wet it and then drive over the area treated with smooth-roller-type construction equipment. If DB-200 is not worked well into the soil, then the first rain that comes along may wash it down into the lower places in the pond. (We do NOT recommend sheep’s foot type rollers.) Use (5) five-gallon jugs of DB-200 (that’s 25 gallons) per acre.

For marginal soils (sandy or rocky) requiring a clay lining to be imported, we recommend first applying DB-200 to the shaped soil, then 8 inches of clay, with another DB-200 application on top. This helps to seal the pond from the outset.

DB-200 may be used in ponds WITHOUT fish populations. These would be ponds already holding some water, or ponds that will temporarily fill up. Such ponds would need to meet the following criteria:

  • Ponds where the leaking is highly suspected or known to be at the lowest points.
  • Ponds where the slopes are very gradual.

This is because DB-200 sinks straight to the soil where it is cast in and strikes the water. Once in contact with the soil DB-200 swells up, 500 times its original size. These swollen globules are at first soft and liable to roll downhill to points at which the slopes are not so steep. This may leave portions of the pond bed un-treated.

WARNING

It is important to ensure NO FISH POPULATIONS during application of DB-200. The sealant product is so strong that it may temporarily coat the gills of fish, causing them to suffocate before it dissolves off or disperses over the course of 3 to 5 days. DB-200 is recommended for new pond construction or in cases where the water has nearly completely leaked out.

APPLICATION RATE

We recommend 5 five-gallon jugs (25 gallons total) of DB-200 granular sealer per pond surface acre per application. Whether the pond is being constructed, or has water in it (but no fish). When used in a pond containing water already, if one application slows down seepage, then a second is highly likely to stop the seepage or leaking. If a second application slows down the leaking even more, then a third is even more likely to stop the leak. Our customers do not report, under these circumstances, needing a fourth application. (shade on ALL “Application Rate” data, here and in all pgs.)

EFFECTIVENESS

The degree of effectiveness in regard to sealing a pond varies from application to application due to soil structure, whereas the clarification function is rather uniform. If you have questions about your soil’s structure, why not take advantage of PondEnviro’s decades of experience before you begin digging a new pond or draining an existing one?
